TeliaSonera to sell iPhone in Nordic, Baltic

28 мая 2008

The Stockholm-based operator said it would bring the handset to Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia later this year.

The company didn't comment on whether the phone will be the expected 3G, third generation, model or on any other specifics of the deal.

Apple Europe spokesman Alan Hely declined to give further detail on the agreement, saying Apple has signed several deals in the past few weeks to expand the reach of the popular handset.

France Telecom's mobile unit Orange said on May 16 it would sell the iPhone in Austria, Belgium, Egypt, the Dominican Republic, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland and its African markets later this year.

America Movil said in early May it would sell the iPhone to its Latin American operations, while other operators will bring the handset to
Singapore, the Philippines and Australia.

The company said it has sold 5.407 million units since its first launch in the
U.S. last June.
Hely said Apple expects to sell 10 million units in 2008.

"We're excited to be working with TeliaSonera to bring the iPhone ... later this year, and we can't wait to get this revolutionary phone in the hands of even more people around the world," said Hely.

"It's certainly positive for them to have it, but it's hard to say much more since we don't know the terms of the deal," said ABG Sundal Collier analyst Jesper Wilgodt."I don't think the share will react to this news."

He reiterated his hold rating and SEK54 target price.

TeliaSonera's share price closed Monday at SEK53.75, up 1% on Friday's finish and 6% higher than year-ago levels.
