Tele2 Buys Mobile Network in Kaliningrad
02 декабря 2008 |
Tele2 says that it has acquired Digital Expansion's mobile network in the region of Kaliningrad for approximately SEK150 million (US$18.8 million) on a debt free basis. The operator's current customer base is 5,000.
The acquired company will be integrated into Tele2's existing operations.
Donna Cordner, Market Area Director Russia, comments: "The acquisition of Digital Expansion is an additional step in our continued expansion in Russia. We think the successful economic climate of the region and potential synergies given the proximity to other Tele2 operations in Europe and the Baltic region will allow us to replicate our successful operational model. After completion of the transaction, Tele2 Russia will be present in 35 regions with total population coverage of approximately 61 million."
Kaliningrad is a seaport and the administrative center of Kaliningrad Oblast, the Russian exclave between Poland and Lithuania on the Baltic Sea. The territory borders on NATO and EU members Poland and Lithuania, and is geographically separated from the rest of Russia.
At the 2002 Census, its population was 430,000.
