Acer intensifies legal feud with HP

02 ноября 2007

Acer, the Taiwanese personal computer company, has filed another series of patent infringement complaints against Hewlett-Packard, its larger US rival; the latest move in an escalating legal feud between the two that has erupted following Acer's increasingly aggressive growth in the US market.

Acer intensifies legal feud with HPHP, the world's largest PC vendor, sued Acer in March over alleged infringements of five patents related to notebook and desktop computers and other devices, seeking to block the sales of some Acer products in the US.

Acer has called the action an attempt by HP to counter the competitive threat from its Taiwanese rival. Acer has registered the fastest growth among all PC vendors in the US and is expected to move into fourth place this quarter following its acquisition of Gateway, the struggling US PC maker.

Acer said yesterday the complaints it filed against HP in the US District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin and at the International Trade Commission on October 30 were part of its response to the HP case. "The complaints involve innovations related to personal computers, servers and peripheral devices," it said in a statement.
