GPS smartphone adoption growing
30 июля 2009 |
GPS-enabled smartphones are growing in popularity, with shipments set to hit 77 million this year, up 34% from 57 million units in 2008, according to Strategy Analytics.
The analyst firm named the Nokia N97 and the iPhone as key growth drivers, despite the difficult economic environment.
Consumer acceptance of GPS-enabled smartphones is on the increase in Europe and North America in particular, the firm said on Wednesday.
"There is widespread consumer acceptance of portable in-vehicle navigation devices from companies such as TomTom and Garmin," in those markets, said Neil Mawston, wireless director at Strategy Analytics.
Mawston added that improvements in mobile navigation services are also fuelling adoption of the devices.
"There is an increasing presence of mapping applications among major smartphone vendors, such as Nokia Maps, Apple Google Maps and BlackBerry Maps," Mawston added.
