Motorola Pauses Sale of Home and Networks Mobility Division

20 января 2010

Motorola is reported to have suspended the planned sale of its home and networks mobility division due to the low valuations on offer.

The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the situation said that Motorola had hoped the division would fetch a price of $4 billion to $5 billion, but the bids have fallen in the range of $3 billion to $4 billion.

The company is also understood to be reviewing the future of the division following a rise in handset sales and whether the handset and networking businesses should stay under a single parent.

Two of the people said the next round of bids was expected to be due in mid-February. But that schedule has been thrown into limbo, they said, with Motorola's board and management set to meet in coming days to discuss the future of all its business lines and to be updated on the auction.

China's Huawei was named as one of two potential bidders - which could prove politically difficult after the firm was effectively blocked from taking a minority stake in US networking company, 3Com Corp.
