KT eyes mobile TV launch in 2011
26 марта 2010 |
Korea Telecom said it is considering launching its own mobile TV service in 2011.
Korea's three mobile operators – KT, SK Telecom and LG Telecom – all sell handsets that support the country's digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) standard; however, at the moment SK Telecom is the only operator currently offering mobile TV services, which are also accessible by customers on its rivals' networks.
That could be about to change.
A source at KT told Total Telecom on the sidelines of IPTV World Forum in London that mobile TV is still a promising growth area.
"We are looking at possibly launching a mobile TV service next year," said the source.
"[Mobile TV] will provide us with a new flow of income, and will help us attract more customers," he commented.
Korea along with Japan boasts one of the world's largest mobile TV audiences, surpassing 22 million in 2009.
