Globalstar Launches New Services in Central America

Mobile satellite company Globalstar this week launched its Globalstar Simplex data service to customers throughout Central America and the surrounding maritime region. The company said its new Simplex data is a one-way satellite service providing asset tracking and fleet management solutions to customers from remote regions which are beyond the reach of traditional wireless and terrestrial communications infrastructure.

According to the company, Globalstar Simplex data allows customers to monitor and track mobile assets such as vehicles, tractor-trailers, cargo containers and marine vessels, using GPS or other location-based software. The service can also be used to monitor stationary assets for location or data monitoring applications.

Globalstar said Simplex is also one of the mobile satellite service provider's fastest growing areas of business with last year's customer base jumping by more than 150 percent during the past 12 months.

Globalstar Simplex data services have been available in the U.S. and Canada since 2003, and throughout Europe, the Middle East and across the north Atlantic region since early 2005. More recently the company expanded its Simplex data coverage to include Australia and South America.
