Globalstar Unveils Next Launch Date

28 мая 2007
Mobile satellite service provider Globalstar launched for the first time four Globalstar first-generation ground spare satellites. The four units, together with four additional satellites slated for launch later this year, will be used to enhance the company's current first-generation low earth orbit satellite constellation. Globalstar said it is investing more than $110 million in the two launches, scheduled to be conducted by Starsem - a Russian/European launch services company - from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The company said it will again be using the Soyuz launch vehicle which Starsem has used in the past to successfully launch 24 Globalstar satellites since 1999.

The satellite services provider also said it will use its current constellation plus these additional eight first-generation units as it manages the transition to the launch of the Globalstar II second-generation constellation - expected to begin in late 2009.
