NAB: Adobe Systems unveils video player
Adobe Systems unveiled video player software for the PC that allows users to play video online or offline, building on its already dominant Flash player. The player should launch commercially during the next several months, and analysts say it could be a game changer since it allows users to download and carry video from the Web to other portable devices, but still allows advertisers to reach the viewers and marketers to track their viewing habits. Rival video players from Microsoft and Real lack these offline tracking features. Users of the software can also search for shows and view ratings from other users as well as automatically download preset shows. Deals with a "wide range" of content providers are forthcoming next month, according to the company.
