Metric: 103M IPTV subs by '11

A recent report from iSuppli predicts that the total number of worldwide IPTV subscribers will total 103 million in 2011, which means the industry is growing at a compound annual growth rate of 92.5 percent. iSuppli puts the worldwide total of IPTV subscribers at the end of 2006 at 3.9 million. The figures translate into a $39.1 billion industry (by revenues), which is up by a factor of 40 from $960.5 million in revenues last year.

Another report from Infonetics found that the worldwide IPTV equipment manufacturer revenue spiked 150 percent in 2006, easily passing the $1 billion mark. That market is expected to continue to grow, but at a more moderate pace in the years ahead, possibly doubling or tripling before 2010. Infonetics claimed that there were 7.2 million IPTV subscribers worldwide at the end of 2006.
