Hughes Awaits Arianespace Launch

17 апреля 2007
In a move company officials are hoping will usher in a new era of satellite communications, Hughes Network Systems will soon be operating a new satellite high above the planet. Thanks to an Arianspace launch scheduled for later this year, the satellite company will use the new bird to provide value-added solutions for its customers everywhere.

According to the companies, Arianespace will launch the SPACEWAY 3 communications satellite for Hughes upon an Ariane 5 launch vehicle in August later this year. Slated for liftoff from Europe's Spaceport at the Guiana Space Center in French Guiana, the satellite's design incorporates on-board switching and spot beams that will enable on-demand services. The SPACEWAY 3 satellite would be the first in the world to switch and route broadband traffic on board, enabling single-hop communications between satellite terminals and eliminating the requirement for traffic to be routed through a central hub earth station, Hughes said. The SPACEWAY 3 satellite's advanced antenna technology allows the dynamic formation and shaping of spot beams, enabling the flexible management of capacity and delivery of true bandwidth-on-demand services.

Hughes Network Systems will operate the all Ka-band SPACEWAY 3 as part of its new broadband satellite network that will provide multimedia services throughout North America. The company's broadband satellite products are based on the IPoS (IP over Satellite) global standard, approved by the TIA, ETSI, and ITU standards organizations.
