Nokia Siemens talks scale, portfolio
16 марта 2007 |
Nokia Siemens says it has 600 customers worldwide and supplies about 75 percent of the top 100 operators. Its global reach extends to approximately 1 billion subscribers in 150 countries.
Going forward the company plans to focus on relevant technologies and minimize the number of platforms, particularly where both Siemens and Nokia have overlapping technologies. The company also touted its variety of radio access products-including GSM/EDGE, W-CDMA/HSPA, LTE, I-HSPA, WiMAX and TD-CDMA--and said that it has inked a deal to cooperate with NEC Corp. for W-CDMA radio networks.
Admittedly, the North American market is a huge challenge for Nokia Siemens, which says it is now No. 6 in that market. However, according to Christoph Caselitz, CMO designate for Nokia Siemens, the company is planning to raise its profile in North America and has already made some inroads with its UMTS contract with T-Mobile USA and its upcoming WiMAX deployment with Sprint. "We think there is an opportunity to climb up from this position," Caselitz says.
