Wi-Max forum welcomes IBM

05 марта 2007
IBM has joined the Wi-Max forum, swelling the ranks of companies pushing for the Wi-Max as an industry standard in wireless technology.

The forum currently has more than 400 members, who collectively promote broadband wireless access products using the IEEE 802.16 and ETSI HiperMAN wireless MAN specifications.

IBM is currently working with device, equipment, software and service partners to promote broadband development in the municipal and telco markets.

,Don Lopes, the vice president of IBM Global Services commented: "Our membership reaffirms IBM's commitment to helping our service provider community deliver anytime, anywhere, converged communications."

"We want to continue to support Wi-Max as it evolves and becomes more established in the marketplace," he continued.

Having a universal platform allows services to be integrated more effectively and can lower the cost of delivery for new revenue sources like advertising, he explained.

IBM is the latest in a long line of larger companies adopting the Wi-Max standard, which has led some experts to predict the eventual downfall of the rival Wi-Fi technology.
