5. 802.11n chipmaker swings to loss
Atheros' fourth quarter swung to a loss despite a 65 percent increase in sales year-over-year because of soaring demand for its 802.11n chipsets. The $953,000 net loss is a direct result of its $72 million October acquisition of Attansic Technology. Revenues for the quarter totaled $87.8 million. As part of the report, Atheros announced it will enter the Bluetooth market starting with PCs before working itself into handsets and other devices.
