1 billion connected CE devices in the home by 2015

21 февраля 2011

The popularity of over-the-top video is helping to create demand for hybrid STBs and will continue to create interest in enhancing the IP video capabilities of cable, satellite, and IPTV set top boxes, a new report says.

Meanwhile, reports researcher In-Stat, the consumer electronic market in 2010 became more focused on CE devices that could easily connect to the Internet and be networked, predicting exponential growth in the segment in the next five years.

"Smart TVs" and Blu-ray players (that support online apps) will constitute over 50 percent of all web-enabled CE device shipments worldwide in 2015," says Keith Nissen, principal analyst at In-Stat.  "North America and Europe will remain the primary regional markets for web-enabled, stationary CE devices.  Over the next five years, both the North American and European markets will exhibit a 23 percent CAGR and will account for nearly 70 percent of the global market."

Nissen said that by 2015, some 1 billion stationary consumer electronic devices, like Blu-ray players and connected TVs, will be in operation around the world.
