IP&TV World Forum sparks discussion on what’s next for multiscreen TV services

04 марта 2011

The debate surrounding multiscreen TV entertainment services will step up a gear later this month with a focused stream of activity dedicated to enabling TV on tablets, TVs, PCs, and smartphones at IP&TV World Forum (22-24 March 2011, London Olympia, UK).

The Managing Multiscreen Delivery stream, held on 23rd March, brings together service provider experience from the US, North and South Asia, Australia and Europe, featuring speakers from AT&T, the BBC, NTT Japan, Deutsche Telekom, Telstra (Australia), Orange (France), Bharti Airtel (India), Measat (Malaysia), ITI Neovision (Poland) and CCNTV in China.

Gavin Whitechurch, director of the IP&TV World Forum, commented: “Mutiscreen TV delivery is one of the hottest TV services right now, and we have heavily focused on it within our speaker programme this year.

“Consumers are becoming ever more demanding in their requirements for viewing video content. The ability to offer a fully integrated viewing experience across tablets, TVs, PCs and smartphones is a key service that all video service providers want to offer. The event showcases the best of worldwide experiences in this area, and enables debate and sharing of practice that will speed up successful roll outs to the benefit of consumers.”

The growth of multiscreen TV deployments has also been reflected in this year’s IP&TV Industry Awards, being held at Madame Tussauds in London on the evening of 23rd March. Interest has been so high in the multiscreen TV category that it was split into two, to allow the recognition of both service providers and solution providers - Best Multiscreen TV Service and Best Multiscreen TV Solution. The categories will recognise multiscreen TV service implementations or solutions which support the delivery of video to several devices including TV, PC and mobile. Shortlisted companies include leading brands such as Lovefilm, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks, Alcatel Lucent, Swisscom & AT&T.

The IP&TV World Forum 2011 has been renamed and repositioned this year to be fully inclusive of the increasing number of service providers delivering TV via IP technology, focussing on hybrid, IP and Connected TV.

The comprehensive programme of more than 250 visionary speakers, including over 150 service providers from telcos, cablecos, broadcasters and content providers, is divided across four work tracks focusing on IP Platforms for TV, Network Optimisation, Service Management and The Business of Content. These four tracks are further divided into one day streams, focussing some of the hottest areas in the convergence of broadband and TV, such as Connected TV,  Mobile TV, User Experience, CDN and the Networked Home.
