Nokia, operators team for co-branded Ovi Store channels

13 мая 2011

Nokia will team with Deutsche Telekom and Orange France to launch a new Ovi Store concept enabling operators to offer branded app store channels touting their own content options and carrier billing mechanisms.

According to Nokia, the store-within-a-store approach gives operators the tools to develop their own apps and services--resources include the Ovi App Wizard do-it-yourself application creation solution and free cloud social and location APIs. Carriers can also leverage Ovi Store marketing, promotional and content spotlight opportunities to promote specific apps and content. Nokia adds that the Ovi Store mobile homepage will offer one-click access to the operator store.

Nokia said last month that the Ovi Store now tops 5 million downloads each day, adding the storefront has grown by nearly eight times over during the last year to over 40,000 apps. Nokia's integrated operator billing efforts now span 112 carriers in 37 markets.

With Nokia now embracing Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system as its primary smartphone platform, the two companies have said they will work together to support the creation of new applications tailored for both local and global markets, also rolling out a new Nokia-branded global app store that leverages the existing Windows Phone Marketplace infrastructure. The store will offer developers a single portal to publish and distribute applications available for Windows Phone, Symbian and Series 40 devices.
