European Mobile Advertising Market Grows 46% in 90 Days

According to data released by the mobile advertising agency, InMobi there has been significant growth in mobile advertising traffic across Europe, with European mobile impressions increasing a staggering 46% in just 90 days and InMobi now boasting nearly 15.5 billion impressions per quarter in the region.

Whilst the report uncovered that the Apple iPhone 4 remains the top device in Europe with 7.2% share, followed by the Samsung GT-i9000 (4.9%) and HTC Desire S (3.1%), the Android OS now represents 33% of all ads in the region, more than twice the amount of Apple's iOS (14.9%).

Android has shown its importance in the market by delivering consistent growth over the last nine months and captured nearly eight share points in the last 90 days, whereas Apple has lost share. On a global basis, Android becomes the number one OS for the first time in Q3 2011, surpassing Nokia OS.

Commenting on the broader industry implications, James Lamberti, VP Global Research & Marketing, InMobi, says: "Consumers have truly embraced mobile and we've seen a tremendous spike in mobile usage over the last quarter. The significant growth trend that we have measured quarter-on-quarter hasn't slowed down, highlighting the need to implement effective mobile advertising campaigns, especially in the run up to Christmas."

Commenting on the findings of the study, Surag Patel, Director, Global Research, InMobi, adds: "Android's OS growth will face increased competition following Apple's rollout of iOS5 and the iPhone 4S this month. However, the numbers certainly indicate that Android's lead will be tough to catch on a global scale, even if Apple makes gains in Europe."
