$6 Billion Market Forecast for PTP Microwave in 2016

According to a newly published report by Dell'Oro Group, the Point-to-Point (PTP) Microwave Transmission market is forecast to approach $6 billion by 2016, with radio transceiver shipments growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16% over the next five years.
"HSPA and LTE mobile radio access deployments will drive a growing amount of microwave shipments through 2016," said Jimmy Yu, Vice President of Microwave Transmission Market Research at Dell'Oro Group.
"Operators continue to be focused on installing and upgrading backhaul equipment to deliver the large amount of capacity needed to run 4G networks. We believe this means that future microwave links will need to carry at least four times more traffic in five years. Fortunately, microwave technology is keeping up with this requirement with innovative enhancements such as the use of wider channels, higher spectrum, and advanced modulation. New microwave links will deliver speeds as high as 1 Gbps in native Ethernet while maintaining competitive pricing," Yu added.
