Indian ministry paves way for 700 MHz spectrum auction
06 марта 2012 |
India's Information and Broadcasting Ministry agreed to relinquish its control over the 700-megahertz frequency, which can now be sold via auction for fourth-generation or 4G telephone services, a federal minister said.
The ministry had held some bandwidth in the frequency for public television services.
Kapil Sibal, the federal telecommunications minister said he expects an auction
for the frequency to fetch more than the $22 billion the government raised from
a similar auction of third-generation or 3G mobile services in 2010.
India's federal government expects such revenue from non-taxable sources to bridge its yawning fiscal deficit and also to fund some social sector programs.
