Google Fiber to expand outside Kansas City

07 августа 2012

Google announced on Friday that it will expand its Google Fiber TV service area to three cities near Kansas City, Kan.

The Internet giant said it reached a tentative agreement to launch the wideband Internet and cable TV service in Westwood, Westwood Hills and Mission Woods, Kan.

"Pending approval from each of the three city councils, we plan to include these communities in a future rally for Google Fiber," Google Access general manager Kevin Lo wrote in a blog post.

Google's move to expand the service area will see it compete with Time Warner Cable, AT&T's U-verse TV and Charter Communications, which offer service in parts of Westwood, Westwood Hills and Mission Woods. The company is encouraging residents in the Kansas City area to register for Google Fiber online, and has said it will deploy the product first in neighborhoods--or "fiberhoods"--that generate the most interest.
