Glasgow first with underground cellular/WiFi coverage
29 января 2008 |
Passengers on the underground will now be able to access the Internet and use their mobile phones in stations with both 2G and 3G cellular coverage being provided.
Glasgow will be the first U.K. city to provide passengers on its underground network with a combined cellular/WiFi service following the signing of a deal between Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) and network operator Arqiva.
Arqiva Network Solutions plans to begin network deployment later this month, with initial testing at Buchanan Street station. SPT see enormous potential for using WiFi to migrate existing services such as ticketing to wireless.
