Cable Seeks Level Playing Field

10 марта 2006
Today's issue of Telco Media News has details on a push by the National Cable and Telecommunications Association addressing the industry's concerns with upcoming telecommunications legislation and what it said is a need to keep a level playing field within the competitive telecommunications business.

A letter from NCTA President and CEO Kyle McSlarrow, sent to leaders in both the House and Senate, said cross-industry competition, particularly among phone companies and cable operators, is «undeniably a good thing for consumers as telephone companies enter the video market and cable operators enter the telephone market.» McSlarrow added that the cable business remains committed to working with lawmakers on issues related to both video and phone competition «and believes it is important to ensure a level playing field for all providers in both those markets.»

McSlarrow also told lawmakers that the nation's phone giants «seek to short-circuit this process by having you focus only on one side of the equation - video - and they do so by grasping for special benefits that are unparalleled for companies of a scale that dwarfs their competitors.»
