Europe to craft new rules for mobile TV

14 марта 2006
The European Commission is afraid it may fall behind the U.S. when it comes mobile TV services because the European Union has divergent rules for TV broadcasts via mobile phones and a lack of intellectual property rights schemes. The EC said it will come up with new rules in the next 12 months that would allow broadcasters to operate under their own national law and sell mobile broadcasts through the EU. Still, there is a bigger issue that threatens mobile TV in Europe. The spectrum proposed for mobile TV services is encumbered in many countries. As such, we might not see a unified DVB-H standard being deployed like we saw with GSM.
