Motorola reports tomorrow, Samsung struggles
Motorola is supposed to announce its first-quarter results tomorrow, and analysts are waiting with bated breath to see how much it gained on global market leader Nokia. It all seems to hinge on how well Motorola is doing in the low-cost handset market, the market Nokia has dominated. Meanwhile, No. 3 handset maker Samsung was stung in the first quarter with falling profits, primarily because it concentrated on high-end products. Samsung said it would develop what it calls a "premium low-priced" handset to compete at the $100 level in order to try and upsell customers to better models.
