Loral's 3Q Looks Good for Commercial Prospects

04 декабря 2006
Right about this time last year, commercial satellite Loral Space and Communications was emerging from bankruptcy amid an uncertain commercial market. But 12 months later, as the sector began to gain revitalized momentum, the company has survived a troubling period and is now posting impressive results. Loral's revenue for the 3Q06 rose 42 percent to $227 million compared to $160 million last year, and for the first nine months of the year, total revenue reached $592 million - an increase of 38 percent. The company also reported a net income of $1.2 million for the period and a year-to-date net loss of $26.1 million.

According to the company's financial report, Loral had $321 million in cash and short term investments to be used primarily for funding the build of its Telstar 11N satellite, facility upgrades and capacity increases.

In the company's satellite services, Loral Skynet 3Q06 revenues were $52.2 million, a 27 percent improvement over the $41.1 million a year ago. Utilization on Loral Skynet's satellite fleet at the end of the third quarter was 74 percent compared to 67 percent at the end of 3Q05.
