Content acquisition still problem for Europe

12 декабря 2006
The most recent study from IDC predicts that IPTV will live up to much of the hype the technology is getting in European countries. However, content acquisition issues still remain unresolved. More than 30 IPTV providers have deployed in Europe and that figure will expand dramatically since by the end of 2006 IPTV will be available in nearly every country in Europe. The IPTV market in Europe is currently worth around $500 million, and will grow at a CAGR of 71 percent to reach $4.3 billion by 2010. Household penetration of IPTV services will increase from 1 percent in 2006 to 11 percent by 2010. France, Italy, and Spain will make up much of this growth since the pay-TV markets on those countries are less developed than elsewhere. IDC says that IPTV providers should be aware that negotiating content deals is a tricky and time-consuming business that may take longer than they may anticipate.
