Mobile Satellite Market's New Bag
21 декабря 2006 |
According to mobile satellite services consulting firm Telecom, Media and Finance Associates, the recent news coming from the industry have confirmed its positive take about the handheld MSS market's potential. The new report gives details on the prospects for handheld services and analyzes the "near doubling of MSS subscribers and revenues over the next five years."
TMF said its report studies not only the growth prospects for the MSS market, but also the outlook for Inmarsat's new BGAN product and how business models for the sector may change after consolidation of major distribution companies. The firm said the new report also provides new estimates for MSS spectrum valuations based on the FCC's recent AWS auction.
"MSS operators may benefit from the recently announced Eutelsat-SES mobile broadcasting deal, since it will increase the probability of hybrid satellite-terrestrial networks being permitted in Europe," said the report's author, Tim Farra. "Eutelsat's intention to support two-way services could lead eventually to use of MSS spectrum for cellular-like terrestrial services, and thereby increase the potential value of MSS spectrum enormously, as has already happened in North America."
The firm also updated its subscriber and revenue projections for Inmarsat, incorporating the latest developments in the BGAN and handheld MSS markets.
