Sirius Surpasses Six Million Subs

26 января 2007
SATELLITE RADIO -- Sirius Satellite Radio said that it ended 2006 with about 6,024,000 subscribers, an 82 percent increase over the company's 2005 ending sub base of 3.3 million. The company also said based on preliminary financial data, Sirius will have achieved its first ever quarter of positive free cash flow in the fourth quarter of 2006.

TECHNOLOGY -- The U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC), HYPRES Inc. and L3-Communications demonstrated direct radio frequency digitization in the X-band frequency range using the HYPRES M132 processing chip cooled at 4 Kelvin (-452 degrees Fahrenheit). According to the groups, the breakthrough could take out the "middleman" in military operated X-band satellite communications frequencies by enabling a signal to be digitized without the need for Intermediate Frequency "down" converters and other analog components.

ADVERTISING -- Watch for Oxygen Media to hold its first official upfront ad presentation on Jan. 23. That's not just a first for Oxygen ... it's also the earliest-ever kickoff for the TV ad selling season which won't get underway until May for the broadcast nets. Says Media Week, it's just one more nail in the coffin of the traditional ad sales calendar as the "52-week market" refrain gains strength.
