As wireless operators migrate to an all IP-based network, many are turning to microwave radio technology as their backhaul technology of choice. The reason, according to a new report from Sky Light Research, is that microwave radios are able to bridge the transition from time-division multiplexing to IP. Sky Light Principal Analyst and Founder Emmy Johnson
says that next-generation microwave radios will garner more revenue in the year ahead because they allow operators to migrate to IP networks without requiring a radical change to their existing backhaul network. "Mobile operators are not jumping into IP. They may want an all-IP network but they want to do it gradually. Microwave radios bridge the TDM to IP transition," Johnson says.
