U.S. handset market grows 12 percent
According to a recent report from the NPD Group, Motorola topped the U.S. handset market with 35 percent marketshare in the first quarter. Samsung followed Motorola with 17 percent; LG scored 15 percent; Nokia had 10 percent; and Sanyo had a mere 4 percent of the U.S. marketshare in the first quarter. NPD found that the handset market in the U.S. grew a full 12 percent over the year-ago quarter, as about 39 million units were sold for a total of nearly $3 billion. Last year saw similar growth of 11 percent year-over-year.
