Nokia will use Microsoft's DRM software

13 августа 2007
The fragmented mobile digital rights management arena just became a little more cohesive with news that Nokia will use Microsoft's PlayReady digital rights management technology in its S60 software. Nokia's decision to go with PlayReady for its Series 60 software gives more clout to PlayReady, which has been endorsed by several operators including AT&T, Telefonica and others.

Nokia said that it expects many S60 and lower-tier Series 40 handsets to incorporate the PlayReady technology by 2008.

This is the second time that Nokia has teamed with Microsoft, which is surprising since the two firms are competitors in other areas of the mobile software arena. In 2005, Nokia inked a deal to put Microsoft's Windows Media player on its handsets.
