ILS, Inmarsat Ink Launch Deal

22 августа 2007
International Launch Services (ILS) and Inmarsat signed a contract this week for the launch of Inmarsat's 4-F3 satellite on a Proton Breeze M vehicle in early 2008. The satellite, the third in the company's constellation, will enable Inmarsat to offer global coverage with its BGAN mobile broadband service, in addition to existing services.

ILS said it will provide an "enhanced" version of its Proton Breeze M vehicle with the capability to lift payloads exceeding six metric tons. The launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrom in Kazakhstan is set for sometime in March or April. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Weighing in at more than 5900 kg, the 4-F3 satellite will be one of the heaviest commercial payloads to date for Proton, ILS said. The Inmarsat 4 series of satellites are Eurostar E3000 models built by Astrium.
