Barclaycard launches PayTag contactless payments sticker

20 апреля 2012

Barclaycard introduced PayTag, a contactless payments tool enabling consumers to begin making mobile purchases from any device without upgrading their current handset.

According to Barclaycard, the PayTag sticker is roughly the size of a typical credit card and affixes directly to the back of the cardholder's phone. Consumers can leverage PayTag to make payments at Near Field Communications-enabled point-of-sale terminals, billing the transaction to their Barclaycard Visa account. Barclaycard will back all PayTag purchases with the same fraud protection protocols applied to all conventional card transactions.

Barclaycard will initially roll out PayTag to selected cardholders before expanding the service to additional customers later this year. Barclaycard serves more than 21 million customers across Europe, North America, Asia and Africa, with more than 85,000 merchant partners worldwide.

Beyond PayTag, Barclaycard has pledged support for Isis, the forthcoming nationwide m-commerce network spearheaded by Verizon Wireless, AT&T and T-Mobile USA. When Isis begins consumer trials in mid-2012, consumers can load eligible Barclaycard, Chase and Capital One credit cards into their mobile wallet to begin shopping at participating locations in the Salt Lake City and Austin, Texas test markets. Barclaycard also is partnering with U.K. operator Orange on mobile payment services.

NFC-enabled services like PayTag will facilitate $74 billion in mobile transactions by 2015, more than triple the estimated value of the market in 2011, according to a forecast issued last month by Juniper Research.
