Nokia Siemens Networks wins two 2009 InfoVision Awards

09 сентября 2009

Nokia Siemens Networks garnered two 2009 InfoVision Awards at the Broadband World Forum in Paris, organized by the International Engineering Consortium (IEC).

In the “Core Network Innovation” category, the company’s Fast Track Voice-over-Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) solution won. In the “Metro Network Technologies and Services” category, it was the company’s joint approach with Juniper Networks to provide an end-to-end Carrier Ethernet solution that was recognized.

“The IEC’s InfoVision Awards recognize top contributions in the information and communications technologies (ICT) industry. We’re pleased to recognize Nokia Siemens Networks as an InfoVision Awards Winner for its Fast Track VoLTE and Carrier Ethernet solutions,” commented IEC President John Janowiak.

The Fast Track VoLTE solution provides a cost-efficient way to offer VoLTE. Operators can implement it with simple and cost-effective software and hardware upgrades* to existing Nokia Siemens Networks mobile softswitch core networks.

“We are very pleased with this recognition by IEC,” said Michael Clever, Head of Next Generation Voice and Multimedia, Nokia Siemens Networks. "For many operators, the full deployment of an all-IP network is still only on the horizon. Fast Track VoLTE is, thus, an important transitional step that helps them bridge the gap between softswitch networks and the all-IP world of LTE. The beauty of this solution is that it's straightforward. It achieves voice over LTE reusing the same equipment that our softswitch customers already have, and it supports 3GPP standards."

The Fast Track VoLTE solution is the missing link in the evolution of voice for operators who choose not to proceed directly to an all-IP architecture that provides multimedia services with IP Multimedia System (IMS). Those operators can still enjoy the flexibility of delivering voice services in LTE networks by using existing softswitches and the Nokia Siemens Networks’ Voice Server (NVS), giving them an important competitive time-to-market advantage.

Nokia Siemens Networks and Juniper Networks have developed a Carrier Ethernet solution that is planned to provide an end-to-end portfolio consisting of the Juniper Networks MX Series Ethernet Services Router, Nokia Siemens Networks A-series Carrier Ethernet Switch and the ASPEN "point-and-click" network management system. The complementary products and technologies will provide service provider customers with the industry's best Carrier Ethernet solution for mobile backhaul, enterprise and residential services.

“The partnership brings the vision of a unified Carrier Ethernet solution supporting all services on a single network”, explains Martin Brundert, Head of Strategy at Nokia Siemens Networks’ Broadband Connectivity Solutions group.

The winners were chosen by a panel of judges from the Broadband World Forum Europe 2009 Program Committee. The InfoVision award ceremony took place during the Broadband World Forum Europe 2009 on September 7, 2009 at the CNIT La Défense in Paris, France.

The InfoVision Awards program by IEC awards the technologies, applications, products, advances and services judged as the most unique and beneficial to the information and communications technologies (ICT) industry. The categories range from ‘Access Network Technologies and Services’ to ‘Go Green’, ‘Wireless Broadband’ to ‘New Product Concepts’.
