ILS to Launch Anik F3

International Launch Services (ILS) launched Telesat Canada's Anik F3 satellite from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in (the glorious nation of) Kazakhstan aboard a Proton M/Breeze M vehicle. The Anik F3 was built by French manufacturer EADS Astrium.

According to the company, Anik F3 is a multipurpose communications satellite with payloads in Ku- and C-bands for broadcasting, telecommunications, business and internet-based services throughout North America; and Ka-band for supplementing services now carried on Anik F2. The bird will have 32 active Ku-band transponders, 24 active C-band transponders, 2 active channels at Ka-band, and will operate for an expected 15 years at 118.7 degrees west.
