The WiMAX Forum said that certification of Wave 1 mobile WiMAX products is scheduled to begin in mid 2007, with market availability of WiMAX Forum Certified mobile products beginning in late 2007. "In Wave 1 of mobile WiMAX certification, the initial systems that will achieve WiMAX Forum Certification will be based on the 2.3 GHz profile."

So Wave 1 is based on the 2.3 GHz profile? Samsung either does not necessarily agree, or it places the emphasis elsewhere: At 3GSM, the company showed its Mobile WiMAX Wave 2 solution which was impressive enough, but the company defines the differences between Wave 1 and Wave 2 thus:"Mobile WiMAX Wave 1: Maximum download and upload transmission speeds: 20M/6 Mbps; Mobile WiMAX Wave 2: Maximum download and upload transmission speeds: 40M/12Mbps."

We also note that Wavesat has said that its 802.16e chips would not be ready until Wave 2 of testing, and that the company feels its competition has jumped the gun on releasing products. Still, Wavesat is one of the vendors participating in this week's plugfest.
