Turkcell poised to enter German wireless market

28 марта 2011

Turkcell, Turkey's largest operator by subscribers, plans to jump into the German mobile market when it launches MVNO service April 4, in a bid to take advantage of the Turkish population living in Germany.

The company, which has struck a five-year MVNO agreement with Deutsche Telekom, has established its head office in Cologne and plans to distribute its products and services via a network of 1,200 stores across Germany.

Turkcell said that it plans to initially target its offerings at the estimated 3.5 million Turks living in Germany by offering bundled packages allowing customers to make or receive calls from Turkey at local rates.

While Turkcell believes the mobile phone penetration among the Turkish population in Germany is over 90 per cent, it remains confident that it can encourage these existing subscribers to migrate across to its network. It is also confident that it can capture around 4 per cent of the German mobile market by offering competitive voice, text and mobile broadband bundles.

Commenting on the planned launch, Turkcell CEO Sureyya Ciliv, said in a statement: "We aim to become the number one operator for subscribers who wish to communicate with their relatives in Germany and Turkey while using the most feasible roaming advantages at affordable prices."
