Bridgewater launches new FMC product

18 февраля 2008

Bridgewater Systems announced its industry-leading AAA Service Controller supports 3GPP compliant fixed mobile convergence (FMC) deployments based on Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA), Voice Call Continuity (VCC) and Wireless LAN (WLAN) architectures

The Bridgewater FMC solution allows GSM/UMTS and fixed service providers worldwide to meet the challenges of supporting subscribers dynamically across whichever access network they choose, and provide a seamless subscriber service experience, operational efficiencies, and a migration path to support Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and converged IMS core networks.

Bridgewater launches new FMC productService providers deploying FMC services face challenges in managing a secure and seamless subscriber experience including ensuring subscribers from different networks are easily authenticated and authorized for access, avoiding duplicate subscriber databases which increase OPEX and network complexity, and reducing revenue leakage due to inability to manage subscriber session records for billing.
Originally designed to handle authentication for voice services only, legacy systems such as the Home Location Register (HLR) will also need to support incremental performance requirements to handle the burgeoning demand for access to IP services.

Widely deployed and proven in the most demanding Tier 1 service provider networks, the Bridgewater Systems AAA Service Controller relieves these challenges by providing robust Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) services, together with a proven subscriber data management foundation to support FMC architectures including UMA, WLAN Interworking and IMS/SIP-based Voice Call Continuity.

“The AAA Service Controller has long been recognized as meeting carrier-class requirements for performance and scalability, and enabling a unified subscriber view across networks,” said Farshid Mohammadi, vice president of product line management for Bridgewater Systems.
“Coupled with proven interoperability in multi-vendor, multi-network environments, the AAA Service Controller provides a key service control component that enables a seamless subscriber experience in a range of FMC architectures including UMA, WLAN Interworking and IMS Voice Call Continuity.”

As a standards-based 3GPP AAA solution, the AAA Service Controller enables mobile and fixed operators to offer FMC services across a number of access networks (WLAN, GSM/UMTS, UMA/GAN, Femtocells), even as subscribers hand off between them in real time.
The AAA Service Controller features support for EAP SIM/AKA authentication and authorization via a MAP/Diameter interface with HLR/HSS. The solution also offers carrier-grade fast re-authentication support to optimize performance by minimizing the authentication load on legacy elements such as the HLR.

The Bridgewater FMC solution also features optional support for accounting session streaming to back end billing systems and centralized IP address management capabilities.
Network and radio agnostic, this integrated solution enables nomadic and active handoffs between networks. In addition to Bridgewater’s extensive interoperability with a broad range of OSS/BSS, network element, and application platform vendors, Bridgewater is working with a number of partners to support integration in best of breed FMC deployments.
